Day 17 - The God Who Never Changes
Heb 13:8, NIV
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Change, change, change. Growing up here in the greater Nashville area for the majority of my life, I have seen change in abundance. If you would have told me when I was in high school that we would have an N.F.L team here in town, I would have said you were out of your mind. If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be in the profession I am in, I would have really thought you were “off your rocker.” There are good changes, and bad ones. We have changes in relationships, jobs, and situations in our lives that sometimes seem overwhelming. I remember the change in my life that happened when I was 19 when my younger brother Israel was killed in a car accident. I also remember the change in my life when my daughter Ally-Grace was born into this world. The greatest change in my life was when I accepted Christ into my heart my senior year of high school–what a change that has been! In all of these instances, God was there for me. He will also be there for me when another set of circumstances happens–good or bad.
Isn’t it nice to know that there is someone who never changes? Jesus Christ is that someone who is always loving, just, and dependable. If we only access His strength, His resources, we will never be shaken. Of course, being human, we try to go it alone and depend on ourselves or on others. In those moments, we can be shaken. God uses our friends because He never meant for us to live the Christian life alone and without fellowship. There are even times the best of friends–and I have been very blessed with some good friends–but even the best can let us down. But God never will!!!
His Word is and always will be the same. God will never change mid-stream like a lot of things we have in society today. We can lean upon him, even when things around us seem to crumble. We also owe him all the praise and glory when things are wonderful and life seems to be at its zenith.
PRAYER: “Heavenly Father, thank you for being the rock we can lean upon. Thank you for never changing. Lord, as our world becomes smaller and our lives seem overwhelming at times, we know you are there. Thank you for the changes you have placed in my life, good and bad. We know that they were placed there by you and for your perfect plan. Lord, I ask that you knock us off of our daily plateaus and into a deeper relationship with you. Amen.”
POINT TO PONDER: Psalms 62:2 (NIV) He alone is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Fortress, I will never be shaken.
