Day 18 - Faith Comes By Hearing
“SO FAITH COMES FROM HEARING AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD.” (Romans 10:17)
Faith, according to what God has written in Romans 10:17, is sent out, put forth, or distributed at a starting point. That starting point according Rom. 10:17 begins with “hearing.” He wants us to hear Him. When we read His Word and apply it to our hearts, He puts forth and distributes a dose of faith that will help equip us in daily living. In Romans 10:17, God is describing to us that faith comes from an ongoing action of hearing. So, what does it look like to be actively hearing God’s Word? If you reread the verse it says that we need to continually be placing ourselves in earshot of God’s Word.
Let us ask: What are some practical applications we can make to hear God’s Word on a continual basis? First of all, I believe we need to spend daily time reading God’s Word and learning what it says. Secondly, we need to listen to our pastor preach on Sunday mornings and hear God’s Word from him. Finally, we can go to Small Group Bible Study, and seek out others who have been walking in a relationship with Jesus Christ, asking them to teach us what they have absorbed from God’s Word. God desires that we take Him at His Word. He tells us clearly in this verse that faith comes from hearing and hearing from God’s Word. Consequently, we cannot expect to grow in our faith unless we are spending time daily reading the Bible. It can be difficult to carve out a slot of time in a busy schedule. But you will grow in faith if you challenge yourself to get up 30 minutes earlier and spend time reading God’s Word with a teachable spirit.
PRAYER: “Holy Spirit, how do you want to increase my faith? Please teach me as I spend time in Your Word! Give me passion to want to spend time reading Scripture and time in prayer with you. I confess that I get busy and forget to put you first. Forgive me for this and give me severe mercy that will get me out of bed in the mornings to spend time with you. Give me a hunger and thirst for you that can only be satisfied by reading your Word and crying out in prayer to you. I love you and thank you for this day. Amen”.
POINT TO PONDER: Remember, our faith will grow as we spend more time getting to know God and His Word. Think about this verse, memorize it, and apply it to your daily life. Preach it to yourself everyday and see if your faith in God does not grow!!! I challenge you to think about that!
