Day 21 - Passing God’s Test
1 Pet 1:6-7 (NIV)
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Job was a follower of Christ, in whom God had richly blessed. He was blessed with material belongings, as well as with a family of loved ones. In one moment, God chose to take those things away from Job. This wasn’t because Job had turned against God, or had done something that was displeasing to God. It was simply God’s way of testing Job’s faith. Satan knew that it was easy for Job to follow God and put his trust in him when things were going well. He challenged God to put Job through a series of trials to see if his faith remained strong or if he chose to fall away. Even through all of the trials and tribulations that Job faced, he still remained faithful to God. He did not question God for any of the things that had happened to him. He simply kept his faith in God and relied on him to help him through these struggles.
God puts us through these same trials each and every day. They may not be big and catastrophic such as death or loss, but he can test us through simple circumstances as well. I have learned through this study on faith to have a peace about things when something doesn’t quite go my way. There were things that would get me so upset and I would try to figure out why it was happening or where to go next. I quickly realized that all I had to do was ask God for help and direction during tough times and he will see us through. If we stay focused on him and keep our faith in him, then we too can pass the test.
PRAYER: ”Lord, as we go through life and as we encounter difficulties, I pray that you will please help us to keep our faith in you. If we can only realize that this is your way of testing our faith and that you are still there and you love us and want to protect us, then we can stay focused on you. Thank you, Lord for always watching over us and for never putting us through more than we can handle. We love you so much, Lord, and we ask these things in your precious name. Amen.”
POINT TO PONDER: God puts us through trials to test our faith. Stay focused on him and keep your faith in Him, and he will see you through anything.
